Fresh off of the Arcadia Tournament, The Varsity Lady Red Wolves took on Pueblo Magnet. The preparation for this game has been similar to weeks passed but involved a lot more of the younger players. “We need to get the younger underclassmen readied for action this week” said Assistant Coach Benjaline Medlock. “To prepare for the game, the underclassmen stayed late working with the upperclassmen for this game. They even came up for the tournament to help us out when the stars got tired.”
Pueblo Magnet came out in a difficult press. Pressuring the guards into uncomfortable positions and forcing lazy passes. The Lady Red Wolves went down 35-10 by half time.
“Turnovers killed us throughout the first half. We need to start learning from mistakes instead of repeating them over and over. We looked over the data from previous games and weeks, overhead passes are killing us. The more athletic teams and players are eating that pass alive. We need to learn from it” said an impassioned Head Coach Jennifer Meza.
The second half did not improve much for the Red Wolves. The Red Wolves scored 6 points in the third quarter and only added 2 more in the fourth. The Red Wolves fall to Pueblo Magnet with a final score 18-56. The Red Wolves are currently winless on the season and are 0-2 in the region.
Senior point guard Lexi Mohler added 4 more points to her season total.
Alex McGraw put more distance between her and the rest of the team as team leader in points hitting two more three-pointers. McGraw had 6 points on the day.
Rio Hidaka made it on the scoreboard adding 2 points to the game score.
Sophomore Ryan Gilvin tied the team high in points for this game with 6.
The Red Wolves return home for regional game against Douglas High School on Thursday January 10, 2019.
