Heading South on I-19 the Walden Grove Junior Varsity Girls Basketball took on a stout Nogales Apaches squad. This would be the last of a marathon run for the Red Wolves, playing six games in eight school days.
The Red Wolves came out sluggish. As a team, only hitting two free throws out of seven attempts and only scoring six points in the first half. “We are exhausted” said Coach Carl Nelson. “I don’t think we woke up until halftime.”
Coming out of the halftime with needed adjustments, the Red Wolves would score 17 total points in the second half falling to Nogales 23-30. This would be the second second-half victory for the Red Wolves. The Red Wolves finish the non-conference schedule with a 1-7 record.
Lackluster free throw shooting 4-14 from the charity stripe really stifled the Red Wolves offense.
Bryanna Vaca scored six points to add to her season total of 26 points.
Brandy Quintana scored ten points for a career high. Her season total is now 24.
Junior Alina Ambrocio hit her first shot of the season giving her a season total of two points.
It was a relatively quiet night for sophomore standout Ryan Gilvin. Gilvin scored 3 points while going 1-4 from the free throw line. That moved her season total to a team high 40 points.
Sophomore captain, Ayah Ghannam, scored another bucket worth two points.
The Red Wolves go into winter break ready to focus on the fundamentals and enjoy friends, family and fun.
