For the first road trip of the season to go North of Tucson, the Junior Varsity Red Wolves took on a vastly superior Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.

“The focus of today’s game was to get at the rebounding. Keep them out of the paint and force them to beat us from the outside” said Coach Nelson. What he did not have in mind is the excellent outside shooting of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.

Getting to a quick lead over the Red Wolves 19-2 in the first quarter would prove an insurmountable lead for the JV Red Wolves to overcome.

Highlights from the game include Brandy Farrely-Quintana scoring four points in the game. That gives her eight total points for the season, a team high.

Ryan Gilvin added two more points giving her a tie with Farrely-Quintana with eight points on the season.

Team captain, Norely Acosta scored her first basket of the year, giving her three points on the young season. “Norely and I have been discussing a lot about her role, overcoming difficulties, and leadership. She is a bright girl and is a fast learner. My biggest suggestion to her was that it is ‘impossible to bench points makers.’ I was glad that she was able to get one of her layups to fall tonight. That monkey off of her back will surely help the team in the future” said Nelson. When asked about what happened in the game Acosta stated: “we did a lot of things right tonight. We rebounded better than we had been in the previous two games and the offense is starting to come together.”

Captain Ayah Ghannam went scoreless in the game but played great defense. Her take on the game was simple: “We are a young team and we are getting better. I am not discouraged by this game. We will have another great practice and be ready to go on Thursday.”

Walden Grove Ladies Junior Varsity Basketball will take on a talented Desert View at home on Thursday.
